"Pres [president] Trump quoted figure of $33 billion given to Pak [Pakistan] over last 15 yrs, he can hire a US based audit firm on our expense to verify this figure & let the world know who is lying & deceiving," the foreign minister stated in a tweet.
The foreign minister's response comes following an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and attended by civil and military leadership to deliberate upon President Trump's tirade against Pakistan.
In a TV interview, the foreign minister also accused the US of shifting blame to Pakistan for its failure in Afghanistan. He advised the US to review its Afghan policy, adding military solution could not be a viable solution to the situation in Afghanistan.
In an apparent reference to the option of 'unilateral step' in the areas of 'divergence' as indicated by the US high-ups, the foreign minister stated: "Pakistan is fully committed to safeguarding its territory."
